ACLA Legislation Day
On September 16th, members from The Accredited Snow Contractors Association and MGIA lobbied for legislation that would improve conditions regarding the insurability of snow contractors. Rising insurance costs due to unfair indemnification and hold harmless contract language is making snow and ice management service businesses nearly uninsurable.
New Jersey has only 2 insurance companies remaining that will cover snow contractors. Michigan is headed down that same path as insurance companies pull out from insuring our industry due to the improper risk transfer being forced upon contractors in these unfair contracts.
Thank you to State Rep. Ken Yonker for agreeing to sponsor our model bill and thank you also to State Rep. George Darany who has agreed to cosponsor this so it can be introduced as a bipartisan bill!
Most of the representatives we met with support our effort, and it is our goal that we will have a companion bill introduced in the MI. State Senate very soon.
Stay tuned!
